(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Spring looks Pretty in Pink

~ Flowering currant (Ribes sanguineum)
Never mind yellow - Spring is also full of pink.
Although I'm not sure that tulip should be in bud in mid-March.

  1. It's always good to see all these at this time of year, especially the tree blossom. Flighty xx

    1. Absolutely! Even as other plants are starting to flower thick and fast - I noticed that the forget-me-nots are about to flower yesterday so, in a couple more days, the borders will be filled with blue! I love spring!

  2. Gorgeous. Pink flowers in spring are my favourites, I'm not a big fan of bright yellow. And magnolias and camellias are my absolute favourites, just love them. I have a tiny white one of each, nurturing carefully. The magnolia has been a disappointment actually, bought at great expense from T&M, but the top 7/8 of it never grew (it was a bare root purchase) and now I just have a stump with a couple of awkward twigs. The camellia was dirt cheap from Aldi and is doing beautifully in the front garden. Nice fat buds waiting to unfurl. CJ xx

    1. Bright yellow is very cheerful to kick spring off and I do love the smaller daffodils but as the other flowers open, I'm ready to embrace other colours! I have to say I'm not a big fan of T&M, their plug plants have failed on me once too often; I think it's worth splashing out a bit more to get an established small shrub/tree from your local garden centre. Having said that, I've had some brilliant plants from Morrisons - and they're cheap which is even better! So lovely to read that you've got at least got the camellia to look forward to! Cxx

    1. I was carefully ignoring the Kerria japonica that's just burst into bloom for this post, Pauline! But, I agree, it's nice to temper the yellow with other colours.

  4. Looks like your camellia is very similar to my inherited one.. do you know its name?

    1. Sorry, Jessica, I don't. It was already well established in the border when I moved into my flat 15 years ago. Looking in the RHS A-Z of plants, it could be 'Gloire de Nantes' or 'Anticipation' but just guessing!

  5. My second reminder today to search out a place with camellias. (None immediately where I live. Perhaps too close to the sea?)

    1. My mum's house was 5 minutes walk from the sea and her camellia was gorgeous. It had sunshine and shelter from a brick wall behind. Hope you find a garden with them in soon - I love to visit RHS Wisley to see the camellias because they're huge there but so lovely to see so many locally as well.

  6. Just loving your pinks! They are appearing here too, I noticed my forget-me-nots are about to take off. It is such a wonderful time isn't it, if only the weather would improve.xxx

    1. I couldn't agree more about the weather, Dina - I've had a lovely day working in a client garden, nice and sheltered and calm, but am sitting here listening to the wind howling outside now! I could honestly just stamp my foot in frustration, spring is sprung and I really want to be outside getting on with things! Hopefully things will improve slightly next week for all of us! Cx

    1. I absolutely love flowering redcurrant - a real joy in spring. It's easy to get fooled at this time of year with so many flowers blooming but I remember it snowing in March a few years ago! I'm letting nature do it's thing and seeds sown by me can catch up when it's warmer!

    1. It's so exciting to see more than just daffodils and snowdrops now - time to start really thinking about the summer garden is just around the corner! Currently hoping that my fruit trees don't blossom with all the wind around this weekend!
